The Church of the Flagellation is a sacred Franciscan complex that includes a monastery, located in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. It sits adjacent to the Church of the Condemnation and Imposition of the Cross.

This site is traditionally recognized as the place where Roman soldiers scourged Jesus after His conviction by Pontius Pilate (John 19:1). Pilgrims from around the world visit during Christian Holy Land tours to walk the path of Christ's suffering.

“Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged.” – John 19:1

Located prominently on Mount Zion, the abbey marks the traditional site where the Virgin Mary fell into her eternal sleep—her “Dormition.” On your Christian Holy Land Tour of Jerusalem, you’ll easily recognize the beautiful circular structure rising above ancient ruins, just steps away from some of Christianity’s most sacred places.

Named for the Latin words of the Lord’s Prayer—Pater Noster—the Church of the Pater Noster, also known as the Sanctuary of the Eleona, stands on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. It marks the sacred site where Jesus is believed to have taught the Lord’s Prayer (Luke 11:2–4) to His disciples. This partially reconstructed Roman Catholic church is built on land officially owned by France, making it a fascinating stop on any Christian Holy Land trip.
