The Mt. of Beatitudes, a must stop during your Holy Land Tour of Israel is where the “Sermon on the Mount” by the Lord was recoded in writings by the apostle Matthew (Matthew 5:7), and Luke (Luke 6) overlooks the four-mile long Plain of Gennesaret, an area in Israel known for it’s fertile lands.

The Mt. of Beatitudes, a must stop during your Holy Land Tour of Israel is where the “Sermon on the Mount” by the Lord was recoded in writings by the apostle Matthew (Matthew 5:7), and Luke (Luke 6) overlooks the four-mile long Plain of Gennesaret, an area in Israel known for it’s fertile lands.

Many times in the Bible mentions that Jesus was in this area, and where he began his ministry, and made many miracles in healing here and faced Pharisaic condemnation for ritual impurity (Mark 6:7).

The alleged difference’s between Matthew’s version of the “Sermon on the Mount,” being on a mountain hill, as apposed to Luke’s being on a level area is easily understood when observing many level places on the Galilean hillsides, and it's something you will see in our Christian tour of Israel.

Our Scriptures never give us an exact location, but people of Israel have inhabited this land since Jesus times, and historical presence by humans has never been broken in this area, as well as a Byzantines built a church to commemorate it at the bottom of the hill, and at the top a Catholic chapel built in 1939 by the Franciscan Sisters.

The suggestion of this hill for the location of the Sermon on the Mount is likely very accurate.  Once known as Mt. Eremos, and located between Capernaum and Tabgha and just above the Cove of the Sower.  This spacious area provided a great deal of space and room for crowds which gathered during the Popes visit in March of 2000.

1 Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down his disciples came to him. 2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5 “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. 6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. 7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. 8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. 9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. 10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you.
13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trodden under foot by men.
