Highlights of the Christian Event
A procession of Clergy and Pilgrims with lights takes place on the 26th of September, circumventing the dome of the Chapel of Saint Helena in Deir el-Sultan, in the lower level of the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. In the morning of September 27, a Divine Liturgy is celebrated followed by a procession led by the Patriarch carrying the Holy Cross to the crypt of the finding of the Cross and ending at Golgotha.
Holy Land Sites to Consider Visiting
Church of the Holy Sepulchre (Matthew 27, Matthew 33:57, Matthew 28:10) where you'll find the last Station 14 of the cross, and where pilgrims celebrate and mark the crucifixion and burial of Jesus.
Monastery of the Cross, situated in the Valley of the Cross, below the Israel Museum and the Knesset. The monastery is a lesser known holy site, with the claims to the origins of the cross perhaps being more of a legend, its still a beautiful gem to visit.
